Samsung has new firmware for NX10 camera

Samsung isn’t famous yet when it comes to digital cameras, but that doesn’t mean the South Korean consumer electronics giant isn’t trying its level best to break into the market. Their NX10 mirrorless camera was a pretty good start compared to its range of entry level consumer digital cameras, and we’re stoked to see the company announce the availability of a firmware upgrade for the NX10, bumping up the version to 1.20. Just what does firmware upgrade 1.20 bring to the table? For starters, we are looking at compatibility with Samsung’s innovative new i-Function lens technology, providing photographers as well as avid shutterbugs with an avenue to control the camera easily via the lens itself. More on this magical experience in the extended post.
Basically, with firmware upgrade 1.20 installed, NX10 camera owners are able to control the camera’s settings conveniently and intuitively from the lens itself. This is definitely something new since it isn’t possible at all on other camera lines at the moment, although things might just change in the future. Conventional lenses, needless to say, are passive in controlling camera settings, but the special i-Function Lens is one proactive lens which will communicate with the camera body itself. Apart from that, the NX10 will also deliver total image control with a remarkably easy way to control camera settings, leading even beginners to obtain quick image capturing, while being provided with customized settings optimized for the lens being used.
Samsung has also taken the initiative to ensure all NX system lenses launched from now on will feature the i-Function capability. This convenient one-touch button is capable of activating common shooting controls including aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance, translating to an easier and quicker configuration whenever you’re out capturing your subject. Whenever the button is pressed, the shooting parameter will be displayed on screen via a graphical cue. Rotating the manual focus ring on the lens will change the said value. In addition, firmware upgrade 1.20 also delivers a speedier AF speed on the camera. Makes you want to run out and purchase that NX10 now, eh?

Casio EXILIM EX-H20G Hybrid GPS Digital Camera

Casio scores another world’s first with the EXILIM EX-H20G Hybrid GPS digital camera, making it the ideal traveling companion. Why do we say so? Well, the integrated Hybrid GPS system will deliver ultra-precise location data for the geotagging of photos and videos. Sounds normal, but you would be stoked to know that this is also the first camera that is able to geotag indoors. Yup, we’ve said it – you can even go into your home without missing a beat, snapping away happily while having those images tagged. Apart from that, you can also view your location on the camera itself thanks to a pre-loaded map on the EX-H20G.
Geotagging has certainly been made all the more popular these days thanks to the introduction of photo-sharing Web sites, and consumers do take the effort and time to do more with their images. The Casio Exilim EX-H20G intends to take the geotagging experience to a new level, whereby it will incorporate exciting technologies to make the entire process fun, easy and completely seamless. How does it work indoors, you ask? Well, that is why it was dubbed the “Hybrid GPS system”, merging GPS with autonomic positioning, where it is made possible thanks to an internal motion sensor. This allows the EX-H20G to track a user’s last known satellite-acquired position against map data stored in the camera’s internal memory, no matter if you are indoors or not. Not only that, the camera itself comes pre-loaded with information regarding 10,000 sightseeing photo spots worldside, and each time you are within range of one of these photo spots, the EX-H20G will automatically alert you, letting you know that you’re standing on the site of a point-of-interest.
This might just change the way you snap photos as you will probably want to make full use of the Hybrid GPS system, changing the way you travel and plan your holidays. We wonder whether this consumer level feature will ever make its way to the DSLR market, or would DSLRs remain within the realm of serious folk who do not want something like a GPS system interfere with its final results? Only time will tell, but we know that this 14.1-megapixel shooter will hit the market later this November for $349.95.

Nikon Coolpix S8100 zooms in on target market

Nikon Coolpix S8100 zooms in on target market

Nikon has further expanded its Coolpix family of digital cameras with another model – we’re talking about the S8100 which will come with a 12.1-megapixel backside illumination CMOS sensor that will deliver enhanced performance and outstanding image quality for high-speed shooting and low-light conditions to its owner. Not only is it fast, responsive and versatile, the Coolpix S8100 will also sport an incredible 10X zoom which is more than capable of shooting fast-moving subjects in still images as well as HD (1080p) movies. High-speed shooting at five full resolution frames at up to 10 frames-per-second (fps), coupled with a pre-shooting cache that records up to two shots before the shutter-release is fully pressed lets you capture all the fast moving action without missing a single moment. Of course, those who deal with even faster subjects can always track them down with the S8100’s Sports Continuous mode as it is capable of recording up to approximately 120 fps – letting you capture the moment confidently without batting an eyelid, all from a non-DSLR or Micro Four Thirds camera.

Nikon has also thrown in their exclusive EXPEED C2 image processing engine which was specially customized to each Coolpix model in order to further drive enhanced performance, outstanding image quality and HD video. Features of the S8100 include a 10x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens (30-300mm, 35mm equivalent) that lets you get up close and personal to the action even if you’re recording your memories in full HD resolution. Fancy producing your own home movies? The Coolpix S8100 can do so thanks to its one-touch recording, optical zoom and stereo sound recording alongside a new editing function.

Do you deal with low light conditions aplenty? While compact digital cameras find it difficult to master such environments, the S8100 is better than the rest thanks to its 12.1-megapixel backside illumination CMOS sensor and advanced Night Portrait mode, making it capable of reproducing night scenes and indoor portraits as intended without too much image blur. Out later this month, the Coolpix S8100 will retail for a surprisingly affordable $299.95, coming in black, red and gold colors.

The Return of Super 8 - Digital Harinezumi 2 Video Camera

audiocubesf_digitalharinezumi2.jpg
Super 8 cameras were released in 1965 by Eastman Kodak as an improvement over their standard 8 mm format. Many memories were captured on this silent format and one can almost spot the distinct look of Super 8 a mile away. Superheadz in Tokyo have designed a digital video camera that shoots "Super 8 like" videos in 640x480 format - the Digital Harinezumi 2. The designers of this camera intentionally removed audio from the recording format and there's no live view when shooting still photos! This unique toy camera isn't for everyone but for those who loved the Super 8 format or a warm retro look it is right up your alley. We've dug our own homemade Super 8 movies out of the archive from 1982 and encoded them for your enjoyment below. As soon as we're able to get our hands on our own Harinezumi 2 expect a full review and comparison to the original format. Full camera specs and product link after the jump
